India Report

Picture of Dale and JaniceWe just returned from two months teaching in Southern Asia. This is a region where religious tensions are on the rise. For example, things are very tense between Hindus and Muslims, because of violent disagreements over a religious site. Up until a few years ago, and ancient Muslim mosque was located there, then a radical group of Hindus destroyed it, claiming that it was an even more ancient Hindu site. Now India's government and courts are struggling with demonstrators (see below).

That's the disturbing news. The good news is a strong church planting effort underway in one of the states that's been most resistent to Christianity.

The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, with a population of 166 million people, would be the sixth largest nation in the world if it were a separate nation: after China, India, Russia, USA, and Indonesia. In 1998 it was 0.08% Christian, but now appeasl to be 0.3% Christian. And now a program of saturation church planting is underway. The goal is to have a church within walking distance of every Uttar Pradesh village within 10 years! The Bible school students where we work will be the men and women starting and leading these congregations. Please pray for them. They will face extreme opposition, but they're trusting God.
